Orb Energy Installs 2.9 MW Rooftop Solar System at Mabati Rolling Mills’ Mariakani Facility

Orb Energy, a leading solar solutions provider, has partnered with Safal Group’s Mabati Rolling Mills (MRM) to advance Kenya’s clean energy transition through large-scale solar adoption. The collaboration marks a major step toward reducing industrial carbon emissions and promoting sustainable manufacturing in the region.

As part of the partnership, Orb Energy has successfully installed a 2.9 MW rooftop solar system at MRM’s Mariakani facility, one of Kenya’s largest rooftop solar projects to date. The system is expected to generate approximately 4,200 MWh of renewable electricity each year, substantially lowering the facility’s dependence on grid power and minimizing operational costs.

“This project with Mabati Rolling Mills is a milestone for Orb Energy in Kenya and a clear signal of how heavy industry can lead Africa’s green transition,” said Damian Miller, Founder and CEO of Orb Energy. He added that the system will help MRM avoid over 200 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, contributing to Kenya’s broader sustainability goals.

Albert Sigei, CEO of Mabati Rolling Mills, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable business practices. “This initiative directly supports our sustainability and corporate responsibility goals by generating over 4,200 MWh of clean energy every year, avoiding more than 200 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, and achieving long-term energy cost savings,” he said.

Orb Energy, which operates in India and Africa, continues to expand its footprint in Kenya by delivering customized solar energy solutions for commercial and industrial clients. The company highlighted that its partnerships with energy-intensive industries such as MRM demonstrate the growing importance of solar power in enhancing competitiveness, resilience, and environmental stewardship across Africa’s industrial sector.
