Masdar Secures 2 GW of Solar Projects in Saudi Arabia’s Latest Renewable Energy Tender

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, a global clean energy leader, has been awarded two solar photovoltaic (PV) projects totaling 2 gigawatts (GW) under the sixth round of Saudi Arabia’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP).

The projects include the 1,400-megawatt (MW) Najran solar plant and the 600 MW Ad Darb facility, both of which will be developed on a build, own, and operate (BOO) basis under 25-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC).

The Ad Darb project, located in Jizan Province, is expected to reach commercial operations by late 2027, while the Najran project in Najran Province is scheduled to begin operations in the first half of 2028.

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, said:

“Masdar is proud to support Saudi Arabia in achieving its Vision 2030 renewable energy targets. Winning the Najran and Ad Darb projects marks a significant expansion of our Saudi portfolio and reflects our two decades of experience in developing and operating utility-scale renewable projects in the region. We look forward to contributing to the Kingdom’s sustainable economic growth.”

The awards reinforce Masdar’s role as a key player in the Kingdom’s renewable energy transition and its ongoing commitment to scaling up solar capacity across the Middle East.
