ACWA Power Expands Renewable Presence in Africa, Reinforcing Its Role as a Leading Investor on the Continent

ACWA Power has expanded its renewable energy footprint in Africa, announcing that its Redstone Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant in South Africa is now generating 50 MW and is on track to reach its full 100 MW capacity in the coming days. This project, developed in collaboration with Herlogas and SEPCOIII, is synchronized with South Africa’s national grid and will provide clean energy to nearly 200,000 households, significantly reducing carbon emissions.

Additionally, ACWA Power’s Kom Ombo Photovoltaic (PV) plant in Egypt has achieved its full operational capacity of 200 MW, supplying clean energy to over 200,000 households and marking another milestone in ACWA Power’s expanding portfolio in Africa.

With a total of USD 7 billion in investments across Africa, ACWA Power is one of the continent’s leading private-sector investors in renewable energy. The company is also advancing initiatives in green hydrogen, energy storage, and water desalination, further strengthening Africa’s renewable energy and water infrastructure. Recent agreements with Egypt and Tunisia underscore ACWA Power’s commitment to driving green hydrogen projects across Africa.

Marco Arcelli, ACWA Power’s CEO, stated, “Our investments in Africa underscore our commitment to sustainable growth through strategic partnerships and innovative technology. ACWA Power is not only a financial leader but also a committed partner and pioneer in shaping Africa’s energy and water future. We are eager to invest where opportunities are most promising, bringing positive change to communities across the continent.”

With a global portfolio of 65 GW, ACWA Power has achieved record-low costs in power generation, water desalination, and potentially green hydrogen, with production from the NEOM Green Hydrogen Company expected by 2026. ACWA Power’s success in securing the lowest levelized water tariff worldwide strengthens its ability to enhance access to affordable, clean water across Africa, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development.

As part of its 2023 plan to triple its business size, ACWA Power continues to expand globally, driven by its mission to deliver affordable and reliable energy solutions that foster economic and social progress. This ambitious growth strategy positions the company to drive impactful, transformative change through its investments in Africa and beyond.
