Construction Commences on 200 MW Solar Park in Congo

India’s Soleos Energy, in collaboration with Melci Holdings, has commenced construction of a 200 MW solar plant in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with an estimated project cost of $200 million.

Soleos Energy, an Indian provider of solar engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solutions, has teamed up with Melci Holdings, a DRC-based electrical engineering company, for this joint venture. The solar plant aims to deliver clean and reliable electricity to over 1 million people and is projected to reduce CO2 emissions by 300,000 tons annually.

Under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the national utility Société Nationale d’Électricité (SNEL), the project will ensure long-term energy security for the DRC. It is expected to create more than 2,000 jobs during construction and over 500 permanent jobs once fully operational.

The 200 MW solar facility is scheduled for completion by late 2026.
