Daystar Power, a Member of the Shell Group, Commissions Ghana’s Largest Industrial Solar Project

Daystar Power, a prominent hybrid solar energy provider in Africa and a member of the Shell Group, has successfully commissioned a 4.3MW grid-tied solar system at Rider Steel, Ghana’s largest steel producer located in Kumasi. This marks a significant milestone as the largest distributed solar power project for an industrial manufacturer in Ghana.

The massive installation, situated exclusively on the factory’s rooftop, consists of 7,524 units of 580Wp PV modules covering an area of 30,000 square meters. All solar panels are seamlessly connected to a remote monitoring system, facilitating preventive maintenance measures. Over the 20-year lifetime of the installation, Rider Steel is expected to offset a substantial 49,900 tons of CO2 emissions.

Jasper Graf von Hardenberg, CEO of Daystar Power, expressed enthusiasm about the inauguration, stating, “We’re delighted to inaugurate this solar system for Rider Steel, which is by far our largest project in Ghana. It’s a compelling example that shows solar energy can power heavy industry and integrate well with the grid.”

Walid Al-Alami, Director of Rider Steel Ghana, highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. He stated, “Rider Steel Group acknowledges and is dedicated to fostering a sustainable, eco-friendly future by minimizing our carbon footprint.” Al-Alami further expressed gratitude to Daystar and its dedicated team for ensuring the timely completion of this groundbreaking solar project.

The collaboration between Daystar Power and Rider Steel not only marks a significant achievement in Ghana’s industrial solar landscape but also aligns with the broader global effort to transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
