Ghana’s leading solar energy firm, Dutch and Co. has made significant progress on Africa’s largest solar rooftop project, with two thirds of the installation completed. The project, located on the IWC Mega-warehouse in the Tema Freezone, spans a single building rooftop area of 92,000m2. Dutch and Co., the PV-EPC and O&M contractor of the project on behalf of the Helios Solar Company (Helios), will use a total of 29,261 solar panels of the latest N-type technology.
The project with a capacity of 16.82 MWp will annually produce 24,750 MWh of clean, stable and sustainable electricity. The installation will also reduce emissions by approximately 11,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year, contributing to Ghana’s efforts to address the negative impact of climate change on the country.
The innovative solar system is funded by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) as part of an all-encompassing $30 million clean power and water deal with Helios’ parent company, LMI Holdings to support job creation and greener, more sustainable, and more competitive industrial development in the country.
Commenting on the solar rooftop project, Dutch and Co.’s General Manager, Herbert Friese, said, “We are proud to be part of this milestone project. Our “Led’s go Solar” team has made incredible progress to date. As a result of our team’s dedication to deliver high quality work, and the adherence to strict health and safety standards, we are meeting all local and international standards pertaining to the project. We are on track to deliver a great project to our client. ”
