Governor Ododo Champions Clean Energy in Visit to Nigeria’s Energy Commission

In a powerful show of support for Nigeria’s clean energy transition, Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State visited the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) headquarters in Abuja this week—marking a renewed commitment to innovation and sustainability at both the state and national levels.

Welcomed by Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, ECN’s Director General and CEO, Governor Ododo’s visit was more than ceremonial. It was a call for deeper collaboration, strategic alignment, and stronger execution of Nigeria’s renewable energy goals.

Powering Progress: Nigeria’s Roadmap to a Greener Future

During the meeting, Dr. Abdullahi briefed the Governor on the Commission’s mandate and the rollout of the National Energy Master Plan—a sweeping blueprint to steer Nigeria toward a clean, secure, and sustainable energy future. Central to this effort is the recently approved Renewed Hope Solarization Project, championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which will see solar-powered streetlights deployed across key institutions in all 36 states.

Governor Ododo, visibly impressed by the scope of ECN’s work, applauded Dr. Abdullahi’s leadership and hailed him as “a worthy ambassador of Kogi State.” He further commended President Tinubu’s inclusive energy policies, particularly initiatives that empower youth and extend energy access to Nigeria’s underserved communities.

A Shared Vision for a Cleaner Nigeria

The visit underscored the critical role of state-federal partnerships in achieving Nigeria’s energy ambitions. Governor Ododo’s endorsement signals growing state-level support for renewable technologies and a collective push to address the country’s persistent energy access challenges.

“We are proud of what ECN is doing,” said the Governor. “Kogi State is ready to align with national strategies and drive clean energy initiatives that improve lives.”

In return, Dr. Abdullahi reaffirmed ECN’s goal to achieve 30% off-grid energy coverage nationwide, calling the Renewed Hope Solarization Initiative a “cornerstone project” for reaching remote and energy-poor regions.

Lighting the Path to an Inclusive Energy Future

Governor Ododo’s visit is more than a gesture—it’s a signal of rising momentum behind Nigeria’s clean energy movement. As ECN works to bridge policy with action, the alignment between national leadership and proactive state actors like Governor Ododo may prove to be the game-changer Nigeria needs.

With solar energy at the heart of the nation’s development plan, Nigeria is charging forward—one clean watt at a time.
