Jinko Solar, the global leading PV and ESS supplier is proud to announce its role as the exclusive module supplier for the Quilemba Solar Project, a landmark renewable energy initiative currently under construction near Lubango in southern Angola.
The groundbreaking ceremony, recently held, marked a historic milestone for Angola’s energy sector and the country’s transition toward a cleaner, more sustainable future. The project is being developed by Quilemba Solar Lda, a joint venture between TotalEnergies (51%), Sonangol (30%), and Maurel & Prom (19%).
With an initial capacity of 35 MWp and the potential to scale up by an additional 45 MWp in a second phase, the Quilemba photovoltaic power plant will be the largest privately-owned solar facility in Angola. Once completed, it will provide renewable electricity to nearly 40,000 homes, significantly contributing to the decarbonization of Angola’s energy mix and reinforcing the country’s commitment to energy diversification and sustainability.
As the sole supplier of solar modules for the first phase, Jinko Solar is providing its latest-generation N-Type high-efficiency modules (JKM620N-66HL4M-BDV and JKM625N-66HL4M-BDV), renowned for their superior performance, durability, and reliability in utility-scale installations.
“We are honored to partner with TotalEnergies, Sonangol, and Maurel & Prom on this transformative project,” Tersia van Lelyveld, Jinko Solars Utility and Mining Manager – SADC. “Our mission is to deliver clean, sustainable power to communities across the globe, and this project exemplifies how world-class partnerships and innovation can accelerate the energy transition in Africa.”
The Quilemba Solar Project is scheduled to come online during the first half of 2026, aligning with Angola’s national strategy to expand access to renewable energy and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
