Moroccan Ambassador to Visit Scotland to Strengthen Ties in Green Energy, Agriculture, and Education

The Scottish Africa Business Association (SABA) has announced an official diplomatic visit by His Excellency Hakim Hajoui, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Kingdom. The visit, scheduled to take place in Scotland, aims to deepen bilateral cooperation in renewable energy, agriculture, and education.

Ambassador Hajoui will meet with Scottish government officials, industry leaders, and academic representatives during his visit. His agenda includes high-level roundtables, private discussions, and visits to key Scottish enterprises interested in expanding their presence in Morocco—one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies.

Morocco has positioned itself as a continental leader in renewable energy, aiming to generate over 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The country’s investments in solar, wind, green hydrogen, and energy infrastructure present strong opportunities for collaboration with Scottish firms specializing in clean energy, offshore wind, and grid innovation.

The visit will also explore Morocco’s evolving agricultural sector, which is increasingly focused on sustainability, water conservation, and agricultural technology. These priorities align closely with Scottish capabilities in agri-tech, making the sector ripe for partnership and innovation.

Education and skills development will be another key area of focus. Discussions are expected to highlight potential collaborations between Scottish and Moroccan universities to enhance workforce development and promote knowledge exchange in science, engineering, and environmental fields.

Seona Shand, Chief Operating Officer of SABA, welcomed the Ambassador’s visit, noting its strategic importance:

We are delighted to host Ambassador Hajoui in Scotland. His visit comes at a crucial time as Morocco scales up its renewable energy ambitions and implements major agricultural reforms. Scotland’s global leadership in green technologies and sustainable farming makes it an ideal partner. We look forward to forging new business links, joint ventures, and academic partnerships that will benefit both nations.”

The visit is expected to lay the groundwork for future trade deals, cross-sector investments, and long-term collaborations between Scotland and Morocco.
