In a strategic move to strengthen both domestic and international operations, NTPC Limited, India’s leading government-owned power company, approved two major initiatives during its board meeting on 23 December 2025. The meeting was conducted in accordance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
The first key decision involves the formation of a 50:50 Joint Venture Company (JVC) with EDF Power Solutions India Private Limited. The partnership, to be established in India, will focus on the development of Pumped Storage Plants (PSPs). These facilities are expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening India’s renewable energy infrastructure while supporting grid stability and flexible power management.
The second major approval concerns the creation of a wholly-owned subsidiary in Mauritius, which will target power project development in the region, with a particular emphasis on Floating Solar Photovoltaic (FSPV) projects. This initiative reflects NTPC’s strategic ambition to expand its clean energy portfolio internationally, leveraging solar energy potential in overseas markets.
Both projects remain subject to further approvals from relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Power, the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), and other statutory bodies. NTPC has stated that while the core decisions have been finalised, additional details as required under the SEBI Master Circular dated 11 November 2024 will be disclosed in due course.
The official communication was signed by Ritu Arora, Company Secretary and Compliance Officer of NTPC, and formally submitted to BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India to ensure transparency and keep investors informed.
These strategic moves underscore NTPC’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy operations, fostering innovation, and pursuing international growth opportunities. By combining domestic joint ventures with overseas subsidiaries, the company is positioning itself to advance clean energy solutions while supporting its long-term growth and sustainability objectives.
