DP World, a leading global port operator, has entered into a strategic partnership with Masdar, a renowned clean energy leader, to advance renewable energy systems within DP World’s port operations across the Middle East and Africa.
The collaboration aims to drive widespread adoption of renewable energy and battery energy storage systems (BESS) throughout DP World’s extensive supply chain network. Over the next three years, DP World and Masdar will collaborate to identify suitable locations for the deployment of solar and energy storage systems, with initial focus areas including Saudi Arabia, Senegal, and Egypt.
By leveraging their combined expertise, DP World and Masdar intend to expedite the integration of renewable energy solutions within DP World’s supply chain, particularly in emerging markets where regulatory challenges may exist.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, DP World’s Chairman and CEO, emphasized the partnership’s significance in advancing sustainable practices within port operations, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and drive positive environmental change.
Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, underscored the commitment of both companies to decarbonize port operations and supply chains, stressing the importance of accelerating the global energy transition, as highlighted during COP28 hosted in the UAE.
Masdar, recognized as a leader in clean energy solutions, is dedicated to advancing renewable energy and green hydrogen technologies worldwide to address sustainability challenges.
DP World, as a prominent supply chain solutions provider, will continue collaborating with stakeholders to advocate for climate action and promote innovative solutions to mitigate climate change impacts while ensuring global trade continuity.
Decarbonization remains a central focus for DP World, with commitments to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and net zero carbon emissions by 2050, aligning with international climate initiatives such as the UNFCCC’s Race to Zero and the UAE’s 2050 net zero initiative.
