Sustainable Power Solutions Spearheads N$200 Million Solar Plant Venture In Namibia’s Mining Sector

Sustainable Power Solutions (SPS), in collaboration with Namibian partners Fortitude and the Oelofse family, is at the forefront of Namibia’s energy and mining evolution. Spearheading a groundbreaking N$200 million investment, SPS leads the development of a 10MW solar plant on Maxwell Farm. Under NamPower’s Modified Single Buyer (MSB) framework, this project pioneers a wheeling model, delivering clean energy directly to customers via NamPower’s grid.

Sustainable Power Solutions (SPS) is embarking on a visionary N$200 million investment to establish a 10MW solar plant on Maxwell Farm, North Central Namibia. Set to be operational by the end of 2024, this project marks the first instance of a wheeling model under NamPower’s Modified Single Buyer (MSB) framework. The MSB empowers Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to supply electricity directly to regional distributors, industrial giants, and municipalities.

SPS partners with Fortitude, a multidisciplinary property development and project management firm, and the Oelofse family, renowned for their commitment to Namibian wildlife conservation. This collaborative effort showcases dedication to sustainable energy and innovation, with the Oelofse family, owners of Maxwell Farm, actively investing in the project.

B2Gold, Namibia’s leading gold producer, is a key beneficiary of the solar plant’s clean energy. The Otjikoto Mine, located 300 km north of Windhoek, aligns with B2Gold’s climate strategy, aiming to offset 26,360 tonnes of CO2 annually. This project is a testament to Namibia’s commitment to clean energy and its investor-friendly approach, fostering renewable energy penetration and reducing reliance on imported fuels.

Fortitude, specializing in property development and project management, plays a crucial role in engineering, value optimization, and quality control during the solar plant’s construction. Sven Patzner of Fortitude expresses excitement about contributing to the prestigious Maxwell Solar Power Project and delivering solar energy to one of Namibia’s respected mining operators.

The Maxwell Solar Power Plant, a flagship venture, is a significant step towards a sustainable and energy-efficient future for Namibia. The collaboration between SPS, Fortitude, and the Oelofse Family aims not only to deliver clean energy but also to set an example for future partnerships in Namibia’s clean energy landscape.

Namibia’s MSB framework signifies a paradigm shift in electricity distribution, fostering a competitive environment and encouraging private sector investments. The solar project’s expansion plans reflect the commitment to delivering clean renewable energy to additional customers in Namibia, driving the nation towards a greener and more sustainable energy landscape.

B2Gold’s Otjikoto gold mine, set to be one of Namibia’s greenest mines, showcases a commitment to sustainable mining practices. With a goal to achieve a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, the mine progresses towards a net-zero operation, aligning with global sustainability goals.

SPS and its partners, Fortitude and the Oelofse Family, will provide ongoing updates as the Maxwell Solar Power Plant construction unfolds, contributing to Namibia’s sustainable energy future.
