Westbrooke Expands Renewable Footprint With 7.8 GWh Solar Acquisition at 91 Shell Sites

Westbrooke Renewable Energy Alternatives, managed by Westbrooke Alternative Asset Management, has acquired a portfolio of operational solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) assets across 91 Shell Downstream South Africa (SDSA) service stations. The acquisition, completed in partnership with independent power producer CVE South Africa, was purchased from Thebe Solar Energy as part of its strategic realignment.

The fully operational portfolio generates approximately 7.8 GWh of renewable energy annually, aligning with Westbrooke Real’s strategy to invest in behind-the-meter solar projects in collaboration with experienced operators. The partnership between Westbrooke Real and CVE now spans over 12 MW of solar projects, reflecting their shared commitment to high-quality renewable energy assets.

The transaction underscores Westbrooke Real’s capability to structure and execute complex deals in South Africa’s renewable energy sector. The 91 SDSA sites are expected to benefit from long-term investment support and CVE’s operational expertise, ensuring reliable and high-quality renewable energy management.

Nox Mlalazi, Westbrooke Real Transactor, highlighted that the acquisition demonstrates the firm’s ability to identify and execute attractive investment opportunities while building a resilient renewable energy portfolio for investors. René Laks, CVE South Africa Country Manager, added that the ongoing partnership will support the continued operation of these assets, contributing to clean energy supply across South Africa.
