Global Solar Energy Leader Neosun Expands Operations to South Africa to Address Energy Challenges
Neosun Energy, a prominent global solar energy company specializing in the construction of solar power stations and battery storage solutions, has recently entered the South African market. This strategic move is geared towards offering commercial solar panels and energy storage solutions with capacities ranging from 200 kW to 10 MW, targeting commercial and industrial projects (C&I), not only in South Africa but also on a global scale.
The timing of Neosun’s entry into the South African market is crucial, addressing the heightened energy access challenges faced by businesses. The region grapples with issues such as load shedding, escalating electricity and fossil fuel costs, and the persistent challenge of numerous off-grid areas in Africa lacking energy access.
Known for its global reach, Neosun has already extended its services or components to 16 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and the CIS. With substantial contracts from reputable clients like Allianz, Adidas, CBN, or Polymetal, Neosun has solidified its position as a significant player in the solar energy sector.
Ilya Likhov, the CEO of Neosun, emphasizes the importance of solar PV stations and energy storage solutions for resolving energy access issues in African enterprises. He notes, “The surge in renewable energy investment to $495 billion in 2022, juxtaposed against the $371 billion in oil and gas, reflects a global shift towards sustainable energy solutions. Neosun’s venture into South Africa is a step towards mitigating business losses incurred due to electricity scarcity and propelling the region towards a sustainable energy future.”
Neosun’s expansion into South Africa, with ongoing negotiations in other African countries and regions, is strategically aligned with its commitment to bridging the energy gap. The company primarily targets small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in industries such as manufacturing, warehousing, shopping malls, commercial offices, mining, industrial facilities, and pharmaceuticals.
The South African market, facing significant business losses exceeding $13 billion in 2022 due to electricity shortages, presents a substantial opportunity for Neosun to make a positive impact. The company’s global projects, especially in remote African regions, demonstrate the transformative effect of its solar solutions on local economies, creating sustainable energy sources and improving lives.
